Abstract

Racks for supporting earthenware tiles during baking feature a series of ledges or shelves which support the edges of stacked tiles to allow air circulation over both faces of the tiles. Compared with close packed stacked tiles, baking is more uniform and quicker, e.g. over cycles may be reduced from 55-60 h to =20h. Concave shelves may be used to control the degree of curvature of tiles which sag during baking.
