Abstract

A stabilised platform for an inertial navigation system is used to determine position and speed of various carrying vehicles such as aircraft. A synchro signal is used to set up periodically the azimuth gyrocompass loop to North. A stabilised platform contains a roll gimbal which is free to turn around an external axis and which is aligned with the vehicle roll axis. This gimbal is caged by an electromagnetic screw. An angle detector is mounted between roll gimbal and base and comprises a synchro transmitter. A servomotor comprising a torque motor ensures that roll gimbal is shaved to vertical gyroscope in Navigation mode.
