Abstract

The system ignites a gas planing device acting on a workpiece by heating a set amt. of metal to ignition temperature with the aid of a spot-heating source. The heating source repeats a movement relative to the planing burner with a velocity component equal to the absolute resultant velocity of the workpiece, and forms a strip of pre-heated metal on the surface of the latter, at right angles to the flow direction of the current of planing oxygen. The source can have a velocity component at right angles to this flow direction, and its relative movement can coincide with that of the workpiece to the planing burner.
