Abstract

The framing for a design to be painted on silk or other fabric, and consisting of a glue which isolates the zones of different colour from each other, is applied using a screen printing frame. The outline is formed by engraving a stencil on the screen, and the profiles, in "framing glue" are applied to the workpiece before the colours are painted or dabbed on by a brush or a pad. This eliminates the skilled handwork necessary to outline the design on the fabric of the workpiece by methods such as the use of a transparency below the fabric, and a pipette with glue. The glue is applied from above so that the transparency of the fabric is unimportant. The process is speeded up considerably quite independently of the complexity of the design.
