Abstract

The invention relates to a process for the chemical improvement of anatase concentrates, allowing to obtain concentrates having a high content of TiO2 and characteristics similar to those of natural rutile. The process comprises sulfurizing low content of anatase concentrates. in TiO2 by hydrogen sulphide and / or sulfur dioxide gas in an oven heated to between 500 and 1300 degrees C. After sulphurization, the sulphide material is leached with hydrochloric acid or sulfuric acid diluted to concentrations of 10 to 20% by weight. After the acid leaching, the material is subjected to magnetic separation in the wet state. The resulting magnetic fraction can be returned to the sulfurization furnace, and the non-magnetic fraction is the premium anatase concentrate with high TiO2 content. The reagents used in the sulfurization and leaching operations are recycled and returned to the operating cycle.
