Abstract

The appts. is used for guiding a blind person, there being no requirement for physical contact by means of sticks or barriers. It comprises an electronic unit fitted to each ankle, the units being identical and a detector coil emitting an audible signal when positioned above a metal strip placed on, or buried in, the ground. Each unit is attached by one or two non-metallic elasticated straps and contains a miniaturised amplifier fitted with an on/off and volume control switch. A miniature loudspeaker is provided and a female plug point provides optional connection to a radio or headphones.
