Abstract

High speed detection of a telephone hand set unhooking operation is performed by central logic in a telephone exchange. A group of subscribers are connected to a common source of call current, through individual call relays of which cadenced excitation is controlled by the central logic. A continuous current is added to the call current in a group detector signalling unhooking of one subscriber in the group to the central logic. The central logic controls only condensed excitation of the calling relay of the dialled subscriber. As soon as the group detectors signal at least one unhooking to the central logic, the cadenced excitation of the relay is interrupted until unhooking is confirmed. The excitation is restablished for those subscribers not unhooked. This process is repeated for each unit in the group unitl each one has answered or until the caller replaces his own hand set.
