Abstract

An apparatus is used to determine whether documents have been altered or to make a comparison with other documents. The reader has an ultra-violet light bulb (1) and a supply ballast (3) in an upper case (2a). A lower case (2b) with side openings may take a document on a support plate (5). The upper case (2a) has an opening and a magnifying window (8). A mask prevents any ultra-violet light going directly from the light bulb to the window (8). Teh top (6) of the upper case (2a) is sloping with respect to the document support plate (5).
