Abstract

A pump for pumping water from flooded cellars or basements consists of a reaction turbine (2) mounted on a common shaft (4) with the impeller (5) of a centrifugal pump. The water flows into the pump through the strainer (8) and is delivered through a flexible pipe attached to the outlet (7). Water to drive the turbine is supplied by a separate motor driven pump and is returned to this pump by a flexible pipe attached to the turbine outlet (3) so that the water flows in a closed circuit. This method of pumping avoids the waste of water which occurs with ejector pumps since the water supplied to operate the pump is discharged together with the water being pumped.
