Abstract

An installation for processing a mass of fibres to produce a homogeneous web for spinning, etc., has a group of cylinders with saw tooth surfaces, comprises two large cylinders and a small one. The first and second treatment cylinders are positioned at a tangent to each other, whilst the small working cylinder is tangential to both. The first and second cylinders rotate in opposite directions, the second at a faster circumferential speed than the first. The working cylinder runs in the same direction as the first cylinder but at a slower speed. Pref. there are three groups of cylinders one behind the other, the second cylinder of each group forming the first cylinder of the next, and the fibre is held in contact with the cylinder clothing by a metal housing having an inlet and outlet for the fibre. Works at high speed and is applicable not only to textile fibres but also to carbon, asbestos, metal and even wood fibres.
