Abstract

An electronic clock with a guest-host liquid-crystal display is described. The specified drive electronics subject the guest-host liquid-crystal display to frequencies in excess of 32 Hz, preferably about 1 Hz. As a result, the power consumption of the guest-host liquid-crystal display is reduced to such an extent that there is no need for the previously used complex twisted nematic cell. Apart from the price advantage, the elimination of the previously necessary polarisers allows the proposed guest-host liquid-crystal cell to have a greater viewing angle for the display.
