Abstract
In the extn. of Sb from Sb ores by hot treatment with a chloriding agent, the Sb ore is contacted with CaCl2 in an oxidising atmos. in the presence of SO2 and at 450-600 degrees C. The conditions are such that S-contg. ores can be oxidised to form in one part of the reaction zone oxidn. prods. and Sb oxidn. prods. and in another part the Sb oxidn. prods. are chlorided. In the case of oxidised ores direct chloriding is achieved and the volatile Sb chlorides are recovered. S impurities in the Sb and the formation of H2S are avoided. Waste CaCl2 can be used for chloriding the ores and problems of regeneration inherent in the process using Cl2 or HCl are atmos. and Sb2O5 promotes this reaction. in an oxidising atmos. and Sb2O5 promotes this reaction.
