Abstract

Optical lenses made of organic glass are coated by vacuum deposition techniques in a cabinet controlled at 50-110 degrees C, pref. 90 degrees C. Method is esp. for tinting or hardening the surfaces of lenses made of materials having lower heat distortion or melting points than mineral glasses traditionally coated at 150-400 degrees C. Coatings obtd. are thinner and/or more uniform than those which can be applied by absorption during wet coating, e.g. dipping, and method is suitable for coating lenses of varying thickness.
