Abstract

An internal lining or 'sock' for a sports shoe, esp. a ski boot, is shaped by thermoforming a composite sheet comprising a laminate of a sheet of cellular thermoplastic material such as expanded polyethylene, and at least one layer of fabric, light felt or other textile, covering one or both facaes of the cellular sheet. Specifically, segments of the composite sheet may be shaped by pneumatic and/or vacuum forming to obtain complementary shapes for the left and right halves of the sock, to be assembled by stitching or adhesives. Opt. shapes for a tongue and/or a collar for surrounding the ankle or shin are also added. Simultaneous shaping is more efficient than prefabrication and assembly of the constituent layers of the lining individually.
