Abstract

An adhesive fire-proofing compsn. comprises two packs. The first is an aq. constituent comprising >=1 alkali silicate. The second is dry and comprises >=1 setting and insolubilising reactant and >=1 change material in particle form. The 1st. component pref. comprises 30-85% of the compsn. The pref. silicates are of K, Na, Li or a mixture of these. The compsn. is used as an adhesive, paint, coating, or binder, or for making moulded products such as board and blocks. It renders protection against fire, rust and protects wood against insects. The insolubilisation of the silicate makes the compsn. insensitive to water overcoming the previous disadvantage of using this material.
