Abstract

Directional orientation of wind driven generators or anemometers depends on their mechanical characteristics and on wind speed and pressure variation. Errors are reduced by a moving element which applies torque proportional to speed of movement to oppose direction of movement. A wind driven generator comprises a support which rotates about a vertical axis. A rudder orientates the generator such that the propeller blades are placed in the air current. The rudder supports a tail piece which is able to rotate about a vertical axis, against the return action of a spring. A rotating damper on the generator pivot drives the tail piece via a cable and pulleys to provide a torque proportional to speed of generator orientation.
