Abstract

Anti-cryptogram compsns. comprises a 1.5-3% aq. soln. of salicylic acid and/or its salts with cosolubilisers (I). (I) are pref. organic or metal-contg. (in)organic cpds. The compsn. is useful fo removing moss and moulds from stone. (I) may be e.g. methyl, ethyl, propyl or isopropyl alcohol, acetic acid, DMF, etc. Alternatively, it may be boric acid, sodium phosphate, sodium citrate, etc. In an example, salicylic acid was heated and stirred with (I) until it dissolved, H2O was added and the prod. filtered. It is then ready for use. Typical compsns. contain (a) 55 pts.wt. ethyl alcohol, 3 pts.wt. salicylic acid and 75 pts.wt. H2O; (b) 25 pts. acetic acid, 1.5 pts.wt. salicylic acid and 60 pts.wt. H2O.
