Abstract

The parent patent describes a machine for automatically and repeatedly tying a knot, partic. a knot to tie up the end of a pre-filled sausage casing. The kknot is of the double loop self-locking capstan type, and the machine has a mechanised thread supply. In addn. the sausage to be tied rests inside a fixed tube with th eopen-end of the sausage casing projecting towards a coaxial axially displaceable tube. Thread can be gripped in a clamp on a rotor which turns around the axis of the tubes. The thread can also be held in a stationary transfer clamp or displaced axially when not rotating. All clamping transforming guiding and rotary actions are effected by pneumatic cylinders. These are selected as double-acting or with spring return as appropriate. The combination of machine motions in tying the knot follows a sequence automatically relayed from a pneumatic programmer. The machine is without electric wiring motors, switches, controls or electronic equipment. This makes it suitable for reliable operation in damp. conditions e.g. sausage mfr. in meat factories. Completely automatic output of about 20 tied sausages per minute is obtd.
