Abstract

Ce dispositif comporte une chambre à vide 1 à l'intérieur de laquelle est logé un support 3 conducteur de l'électricité avec la piece à traiter 4 et une cathode creuse chaude 5 constituée d'un nombre déterminé de tiges 6 en alliage thermo-émissif. Les tiges 6 qui forment la cathode creuse chaude 5 sont réunies électriquement au pôle négatif d'une source de courant continu 13 alors que le support conducteur 3 de la pièce à traiter 4 est réuni au pôle positif de la même source 13 grâce à quoi un arc électrique 14 est amorcé et entretenu en présence d'un gaz inerte, entre la cathode creuse chaude 5 et la pièce à traiter 4. Ce dispositif peut être utilisé comme source de chaleur dans les procedés de métallurgie pour la fusion, le raffinage, le dégazage, le soudage, la réduction des métaux et des alliages ainsi que pour le traitement à hautes températures des métaux sous vide.
