Abstract

The surface water sewer of precast reinforced concrete superimposable units (2, 8, 11, 16) duals both as a carrier drain and a filter-drain. The filter function is provided by holes (3, 9, 12) in the walls of the units permitting use of the sewer for land-drainage. The base unit (2) is of 'U' section, and superimposed units (8, 11) extend the side-walls upto ground level to receive demountable cover slabs (16). Each base unit (2) to 0.5 m high and has a row of three drain holes (3) at mid-height in each wall. The complete installed sewer has a vertically elongated rectangular section with rounded invert corners, and the height-extension units (88, 11) comprise two side-walls maintained apart by two transverse diaphragms (10, 13). The extension units (8, 11) may be in standard heights of 0.58 and 0.37 m with diaphragms (10, 13).
