Abstract
The object, e.g. an abrasion-resistant tool steel, is provided with a refractory metal coating by bringing the object into contact with an electrolyte which is located at least partially between the refractory metal particles (14) and the surface of the base material (12). The melting point of the metal particles (14) is at least 1490 DEG C. The coating is formed by nests (18) which consist of closely adjacent particles.
