Abstract

A safety interlock for the automatic scraping devices of bowl centrifuges, specially those used in sugar refineries, consists of two peripheral flats on the scraper spindle which form two radial shoulders. Two keyways, 90 degrees offset from the flats, form two axial shoulders. Two spring-loaded pins enter the flats and lock the vertical movement in one position. In the other position they are guided in the keyways and prevent a rotary movement of the scraper. This ensures that in the position of rest the scraper cannot drop into the centrifuge in case the power medium fails. In the other position the scraper can move along the bowl and is never out of contact with it.
