Il est obtenu en plaçant une feuille-support ayant une résistivité de 10**4 à 10**10 ohms par carré en contact avec une feuille de transfert revêtue d'une couche de cire transférable et en transférant par application de chaleur ou de pression des régions déterminées sélectivement de la cire à la feuille-support.
