Abstract

Prevention of incrustation on hot surface is achieved using metal salts on filaments, the filaments having >=0.001wt.% metal salt of the formula (I): (where R1 is 1-6C alkylene. R2 is 1-6C alkyl. R3 is 1-5C alkyl. R4 is H or as R3. n = 1-4. M is a metal atom, e.g. Na, K, Ba, Cd, Zn, Al, Co, Sn, Ni, Cu). Pref. the salt is a Ni salt of formula (I) (in which R1 is -CH2-, R2 is Et and R3 and R4 are t.-Bu in the 3,5-positions). Used esp. for treating polyethylene terephthalate and polyamide filaments. The salt prevents incrustation on heating aggregates used for the continuous thermal treatment of fibres treated with various finishes, so that frequent plant shut-downs for cleaning are avoided.
