Abstract

New medicaments contain (a) a salicyl deriv. and (b) anti-bacterial cpds. of the nitrofuran series with synergistic activity w.r.t. analgesic and antiseptic properties. The ratio of salicyl deriv. to nitrofuran cpd. is generally 4:1. Typical salicyl derivs. are aspirin, diethylsalicylamide, salicylamide, and choline salicylate. Typical nitrofurans are 5-nitrofurfurylideneaminohydantoin and 3-morpholinomethyl-5-nitro-furfurylideneamino-2,4-imidazolidine-2- ,4-dione (nurfurfolin). The medicaments can be used for treating various painful or infectious syndromes, esp. in bone tissue and in the oral/dental area. There is mutual synergism between thesalicyl and nitrofuran components, so that both analgesic and antibacterial effects are increased. The toxicity of the medicaments is low, and they are practically without effect on blood clotting.
