Abstract

A device is used for measuring fluid displacement and/or fluid velocity in a stream comprises a turbine rotor (1) having a number of radially extending vanes (2). The rotational axis of turbine rotor (1) is perpendicular to the direction of stream flow in use. The turbine rotor (1) is mounted in a housing fixed to the stream bed so that only the upper most vanes (2) are actually exposed to the stream. The housings upper surface is contoured to improve fluid flow and a triangular guide member is located upstream of the rotor to reduce the effects of lateral stream components.
