Abstract

The protective sleeve (2) is fitted with a flange at one end and is split longitudinally. The sleeve is made of soft material and is screwed onto the rod, so that the rod may then be held in the jaws (4, 5) of the vice without damage to the thread. The sleeve may also be fitted with a blind end so as to fit over the end of the rod. This allows the rod to be suspended from a bracket by the flange of the sleeve for storage or display. The sleeves may also be used to locate a saw cut position along the threaded rod.
