Abstract
The system locates a source of IR radiation w.r.t. an optical axis. It comprises a focussing objective, a scanner for linear scanning, an IR detector in the focal plane and a data processing unit for the detector output signals. It delivers signals characteristic for the X and Y coordinates of the IR source in a coordinate system aligned with or centred on the optical axis. The IR detector (12) has two filament-shaped detector elements (21, 22) parallel neither to the scanning direction nor to each other. The scanner (11) has devices delivering pulses to the data processing unit (13) defining starting instant, end of a scanning period and a reference pulse depending on the detector elements (21, 22) arrangement.
