Abstract

The fire escape apparatus is intended for individual escape from the window of a multi storey building. It is in the form of a cord or cable (25), with hand and foot holds (45) spaced at intervals. They are made from wooden or metal sleeves of elliptical or hexagonal shape. One end of the cord is attached to a plate (20) which is fixed to the inside wall of the building, under the window. The other end reaches ground level when used, a loop being provided for steadying. When not is use, the cord is coiled round a holder, and a pull-off cover is fitted for aesthetic reasons.
