Abstract

Diels-Alder adducts of formula (I) or its hydrogenated, chlorinated or brominated derivs., or are new. (I) are insecticides with activity similar to known polychlorinated cyclic hydrocarbons e.g. chlordane, heptachlor, aldrin etc. They are, more readily degraded, and less injurious to the environment, than the known insecticides. The presence of the bridgehead nitrogen also improves the effect of (I) in the insect nervous system, giving a considerable reduction in resistance problems. In an example, (I) with is prepd. by reacting pentachloro-1-azacyclopentadiene with cyclopentadiene overnight.
