Abstract

The cutting disc (2) may be used on a power-driven potato chipping appliance and has a radially stepped (12) cutter plate (13) in an elevated position relative to the general disc (2) surface. The cutter (13) super-imposes a disc opening (10) through which the chips drop into a collection bin. The stepping of the cutter causes a progressive contact with the potato thus reducing motor strain. The disc inc. a hub (3) for fixing on the drive-shaft and each stepped cutter segment (12) is of an inverted 'L' form when sectioned on a disc radius. The plates forming the bar (12b) and the leg (12a) of the 'L' are resp. parallel and normal to the major disc plane. The leading edges of the 'L' (12) constitute the cutting edges and lie on a disc radius (P), and the interval between cutting edges is defined by radii at equal angular intervals (a). The cutting edges span equal continguous part lengths (K) of the disc radius.
