Abstract

Proteinaceous materials are hardened with cyanuryl chloride (I) partial hydrolysis prod. obtd. by contacting (I) with an aq. soln. of a water-soluble tert. phosphate (II). Pref. (I) is dissolved in the aq. soln. of (II), using a (I):(II) molar ratio of 1:1-3. The proteinaceous material is pref. gelatine. Used partic. for hardening Ag halide gelatine emulsion layers without impairing the photographic effects. The hardened layers become insoluble in aq. solns. with variable pH or temp. while acquiring improved abrasion resistance. The hardener soln. can also be used in colour photographic prods. as it does not react with colour couplers.
