Abstract

Upgrading of hairy fabrics, i.e. fabrics with a long- or short-hair pile, comprises (a) starting from a hairy woven fabric of generally known type, e.g. that used for fabricating an artificial fur and consisting of canvas with a hair coating and of material selected so that the hair undergoes permanent deformation under the action of heat while the heat-resistance of the canvas is considerably greater than that of the hair, (b) exposing the canvas to the simultaneous action of heat and pressure along a pattern consisting of straight line sections, as a result of which the parts of the hair covering so affected are deformed and the generally desired design consisting of wide or narrow elements in the hair covering is formed, whereby its external aspect of the fabric on the side of the hair covering is favourably modified, i.e. upgraded and improved. The improvement of the artificial fur fabric can be achieved without the need to introduce a foreign body or material.
