Abstract

High purity Cu sheet is butt welded, esp. to form a tube, by an arc welding process in which, apart from careful degreasing, the edges of the sheet are abraded with brush or a grinder. Cu sheet is seam welded to produce an electrical conductor esp. for the central core of coaxial cables. A shearing operation, necessitating deburring is avoided. The surfaces are cleaned for welding by brushing or grinding, consequently there is less loss of metal.
