Abstract

A tooth implant comprises a root (11) which is inserted in the jaw bone. There is a neck (14) which can be embedded in the connective tissue of the gum, and a crown support (12). The neck has an outer coating (15) of porous bicompatible material, pref. porous metal, porous ceramic or a porous polymer or copolymer, with a thickness of approx. 0.2-0.5 mm. The neck pref. has a height of 2-4 mm and a dia. of approx. 1.5-2.5 mm, and the pores in the coating pref. have a size of approx. 20-100 u. The connective tissue grows into the porous coating, forming a strong bond similar to that of a natural tooth, and preventing any risk of infiltration of contaminants.
