Abstract
Impregnation of continuous filaments passing through a dip bath is enhanced by vibrating the filaments with direct impulses, viz contact with an oscillating bar. Specifically an array or mat of filaments is vibrated by a common transverse bar. Filaments leaving the bath pass round a hollow steel roll covered with silane rubber of 40 degrees Shore hardness and closed by polyamide end caps. The roll is in contact with a wiping roll which incorporates a chamber allowing the roll cover to be pressurised against the passing filaments. Used esp. for coating filaments with adhesion promoters prior to use for reinforcing rubber. Vibration enhances coating efficiency, esp. penetration between groups of filaments.
