Abstract

Generator providing a stream of binary data where the probability of a 1 or a 0 appearing has a predetermined value, ie. is pseudo random. Applications include its use in error response of equipment, esp. data transmission systems. The probability of a 1 or a 0 appearing is p/q where p/ and q are integers and p q. The stream is controlled from a clock source at a frequency F' and sampled by a circuit controlled by a further clock source at a frequency F'/2q. F'/F is preferably at least 4q. The generator may include a counter summing the value of the two bit states and delivers a decoded output in one of two levels for q and q-p states.
