Abstract

The method of synchronising traffic light signals is designed to be used at crossroads. From a central control unit (10) a short range directional radio wave is emitted to a first crossroads (27) the wave being in a coded pulse form. This coded wave is received at the cross-roads (27) and the information contained in it is decoded. Traffic light sequence is controlled according to the decoded information. From the first crossroads (27) a short range directional wave identical to the first wave received is transmitted to the next crossroads (37). This sequence of events is repeated for all the other crossroads to be controlled in this synchronised fashion.
