Abstract

Dyes of formula (I) are applied to leather (where A' and A4 = benzene, naphthalene, heterocyclic or aliphatic radicals of cpds. A'H and A4H; A2 and A3 = benzene or naphthalene residues of cpds. HA2H and HA3H; is not 1 of A'-A4 carries is not 1 SO3H or COOH; the dyes contain 1-5 SO3H and 0-2 COOH carried on one or more of A'-A4, one and the same radical contg. 0-2 SO3H and 0-1 COOH, or is not >1 SO3H or 1 COOH; X = H, Cl or alkyl; m and n = 0-2, is not >1 being pref. O; the heterocyclic cpds. are derivs. of 1-phenyl-5-pyrazolone and its metal complexes). A dye of esp. value is the octakisazo dye of formula XII (where X = H, Cl or CH3; Z=h or CH3). --(m-phenylene). The dyes have been found esp. suitable for leathers of different tannages, giving level, well-penetrated dyeings fast to washing, light, perspiration, dry-cleaning and grinding. Soln. of the dyes have good fastness and are stable to acids and alkalis.
