Abstract

Parent Patent describes the prepn. of organic sulphinic acid esters (I): RS(O)OR' (I) (where R and R' are aliphatic, alicyclic, aromatic or heterocyclic gps.) by reacting RS(O)OH with ClS(O)OR. In this addition the chlorosulphite is replaced by a neutral sulphite O=S(OR')2. The sulphite may be used pure or prepd. in situ or just before use from SOCl2 and R'OH. The process is esp. for prepn. of esters of 2-chloroethane sulphinic acid, used as plant growth regulants.
