Abstract
The emulsifier powders contain mineral elements and an emulsifying agent. Suitable minerals include Na, Ca, ammonium and Mg phosphates and mixed alkaline alkaline earth metal phosphates. Typical emulsifying agents include hydroxy ethyl cellulose and carboxymethyl cellulose. In an example, an emulsifiable concentrate contained 89.0% tricalcium phosphate, 9.5% monoammonium phosphate, 1.0% sodium chloride and 0.5% hydroxy ethyl cellulose. The powders are added to drinking water to supply P and Ca. Conventional additives are solids or solns. The solids must be mixed with feed and can become irregularly distributed. Solns. require the use of soluble salts, which tend to be more expensive. These difficulties are overcome by means of an emulsion. The amts. of each mineral absorbed by the animal can be determined precisely and the absorption is regular as it depends on the animal need for drinking water.
