Abstract
A supple, cellular, flame and/or heat resistant material contains 60-30 pts. wt. (dry) of incombustible latex foam, e.g. polychloroprene or polychlorobutadiene, which can contain acid gps. which on heating form ester bridges between the polymer chains, 40-70 pts. wt. (dry) of Na2O.-2SiO2. 3H2O, a surfactant, vulcanising agent and opt. flame resistant additives. This cellular material has both good mechanical and flame-resistant properties and is used to prevent the spread of fire, e.g. as a cavity filler or flame arresting joint.
