Abstract

The brushless DC motor has a rotor which consists of a set of permanent magnets (1) and it has a non-magnetic shaft (2). The stator has two toroidal magnets (3, 4) mechanically and magnetically connected by a bar (5) parallel with the axis of the motor. The windings are formed by wires which are wound around the two toroidal magnets. The motor is for use wherever a variable speed motor is required e.g. machine tools, fans. The advantage lies in avoiding brushes and slip-rings. The two toroidal electromagnets (3, 4) surround the ends of the permanent magnets.
