Abstract

The car headlamps are cleaned by fixed washer jets which project a fluttering flat profile spray at shallow angles over the lenses, and do not require any wipers. The jets have swirl chambers (12) formed by inlet orifices (11) into the heads and have exit slots (13) near the top. The eccentricity of the inlet and outlet ports causes the fluttering effect with the cross sectional arre of the outlet port being 60% to 80% of that of the inlet port. The length of the chamber is not greater than four times the width of the flat profile slot. The system uses a minimum of washer fluid, from a pressurised reservoir.
