Abstract

Plastic bags are made by flattening, cutting and welding tubular film so that handholes are provided in a tubular zone between the edge of the flattened tube and a seam welded parallel to that fold. The bag is filled inverted via an opening corresponding to the cut along the axis of the flattened film, then the opening is sealed to form the base of the bag. Used esp. for packaging medical or surgical materials or equipment, gramophone records, or other goods requiring sterile or clean conditions. The double walled handled zone is strong enough to support the bag without needing addn. of reinforcing strips or peripheral welds. The handle zone may feature ancillary perforations for suspending the pack for display or dispensing purposes.
