Abstract

Product which colours the skin without exposure to the sun contains alpha- or beta-carotene, zeaxanthine, or canthaxanthine. The dye is extracted from plants such as carrots, lucerne, tagetes, red pepper etc. In an example 1 kg carrots were crushed and extracted with 1 kg trichloroethylene. The solvent was evaporated to give a red oil contg. carotenoids and 0.01 g propyl gallate and 5 g Cremophor EL added per 100 g extract. The prod. was absorbed in silica and starch, dextrine, gelatine, and Mg stearate added and the mixt. made into tablets contg. 0.600 g vegetable extract.
