Abstract

The dual purpose chair converts into specialised dorsal support couch or chair. In the latter form the conventional chair back or seat is replaced by several individual support are of form which settle and spread under body weight to extend e.g. the spine for relaxation or treatment purposes, and attach to fittings appended to the chair frame. The chair frame may comprise opposed inverted 'U' members forming legs (2) and arm rests (4) and connected by an under-seat ring frame (3). Integral sockets (6, 5) receive a back rest or a head rest (18 to 20) and a leg rest (10 to 14). A board replacing the seat incorporates backrests each of which may comprise two pads (17) straddling the spine and mounted individually on iclined elastic plates.
