Abstract

The rotary refuse incinerator has the refuse pushed into a sloping rotating cylinder (1) towards the burner at the other end or has air entry holes (15) all around the cylinder (1). Air enters these holes through longitudinal chambers (16) between the drum and an external sealing cylinder (22). To reach these chambers, the air passes from a delivery hood (20) through further holes (25) through an intermediate cylinder. Only those holes (25) covered by the hood (20) are uncovered, the hood being positioned opposite the part of the drum holding the charge. The remainder of the holes (25) not covered by the hood are blocked by the outer cylinder (22). A mechanism to alter the angular position of the hood enables the zone in which the air enters to be modified. This can be adjusted to suit the type of material being burnt.
