Abstract

Refractory insulating compsn. comprises polycrystalline, refractory oxide short cut fibres, a refractory powder selected from acid oxides, neutral oxides and aluminium silicate, and a refractory binder. The fibres are pref. of alumina, contg. =15 wt.% silica, 8 mm, and for a max of 20 wt.%, 0.1 mm. In another embodiment the fibres are 1-2 mu long. Their dias. are 10 (0.5-5) mu. The incorporation of a proportion of refractory powder in the compsn. reduces the shrinkage of fibrous prods. when exposed to high temps.
