Abstract
The optical transmission system is used for transmitting command and data signals from one unit (A) to a second unit (B), incorporating relays etc. controlled by the command signals, and which is at a different potential to the first unit. The command and data signals are converted into photo-emissions, supplied to an optical fibre cable (b), with a photo-detector connected to the other end of the latter. Pref. the difference in potential between the two units (A, B) at opposite ends of the transmission path is of the order of tens or hundreds of kilovolts. The photo-detector connected to the reception side of the transmission line is used to modulate a current in dependence on the received photo emissions.
